SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Some 1990 vehicles equipped with the A604 Ultradrive Transaxle built PRIOR TO JANUARY 1, 1990, TRANSAXLE DATE CODE K xxx 0384 xxxx
may experience an intermittent loss of the signal from the PRNDL switch. This intermittent condition can cause delayed transmission engagement, harsh
shift into reverse, or transmission to default to the limp-in mode, accompanied with the following fault codes: 22 "2-4 PRESSURE SWITCH ERROR" -
37 "SOLENOID SWITCH VALVE" - 39 "TURBINE OR OUTPUT CIRCUIT ERROR".
The intermittent nature of this condition allows the DRB II shift lever status to pass the test. As a result, the solenoid assembly, valve body assembly or
speed sensors may have been replaced without correcting the condition.
DIAGNOSIS
Check the transaxle build date, if it is PRIOR TO TRANSAXLE DATE CODE K xxx 0384 xxxx, and no dab of white paint are found on the PRNDL
and Neutral Safety switches, perform the following repair procedure.
