Control Arm: Service and Repair

NOTE:  The lower control arm, pivot bushings and ball joint are serviced as a complete assembly.

REMOVAL

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove front and rear inner pivot through bolt and ball joint to steering knuckle clamp bolt.
3. Separate ball joint from steering knuckle. 

NOTE:  Removing steering knuckle from vehicle after releasing knuckle from ball joint can separate inner C/V joint.

4. Remove sway bar to control arm end bushing retainer nuts and rotate control arm over sway bar. Remove stub strut retainer. Inspect lower control

arm for distortion and check bushings for deterioration.

INSTALLATION

1. Position control arm over sway bar, then install pivot bolts and loosely assemble nuts.
2. Install ball joint stud into steering knuckle, then install clamp bolt. Torque bolt to specification.
3. Install sway bar end bushing to control arm, then install retainer bolts. Torque to specifications.
4. Lower vehicle and with suspension supporting vehicle, torque pivot bolts to specification.
