SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Fuel gauge becomes inoperative. This may be due to a defective instrument cluster fuel gauge which, in turn, may fail the fuel level sending unit in the
fuel tank when tank is filled.

This condition only applies to 1985 vehicles built before December 12, 1984. MDH 12-12-XX.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

If vehicle exhibits above condition, ground the G-4 (18 gauge dark blue) wire at the fuel sending unit and turn ignition switch ON. If fuel gauge moves to
FULL position, replace BOTH the instrument cluster fuel gauge and the fuel tank sending unit per Service Manual procedures.

If gauge does not move to FULL position, check wiring and repair as needed.
