Timing Cover: Service and Repair

Remove timing belt as described under ``Timing Belt or Chain, Replace.''

Drain crankcase, then remove oil pan and oil pickup screen.

Remove oil pump cover, then remove eight front timing case to cylinder block attaching bolts and remove timing case and oil pump as an
assembly.

Reverse procedure to install. When installing timing case attaching bolts, refer to Fig. 30 and note that bolts to be installed in locations A are .31
1.38 inch (8 35 mm) and locations B are .31 1.57 inch (8 40 mm). Before installing oil pan, apply sealer at the four front timing case and rear oil
seal case to cylinder block mating surfaces. Torque front timing case attaching bolts to 11-13 ft. lbs., oil pickup screen tube attaching bolts to
13-18 ft. lbs. and oil pan attaching bolts to 4.5-5.5 ft. lbs.
