SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Transaxle "slips" out of third or fourth gear during deceleration.
DIAGNOSIS
Confirm that 3-4 detent "feel" is much softer than 1-2 detent "feel".
The cause may be due to lack of detent spring pressure on the 3-4 selector rail. This lack of pressure may be due to the 3-4 detent ball bore being
incompletely drilled.
REPAIR
1.
Drain transaxle fluid into a clean container.
2.
Remove the 3-4 detent plug, spring, and ball.
3.
Place transmission in third gear.
4.
Using an 8 mm (5/16") drill bit held in a "T" wrench, carefully insert the drill into the detent ball hole and, using a twisting motion, complete the
drilling.
5.
Clean out any metal chips with compressed air.
6.
Reinstall detent ball, spring, and plug.
7.
Refill transaxle with oil removed in Step 1.
8.
Road test the car for proper transaxle operation.
