Visually inspect the inside of the heat shield for signs of exhaust leakage such as carbon deposits (Figure 11).

If exhaust leakage was found, replace the exhaust manifold with exhaust manifold package P/N C3940377 as follows:
a.
Remove the oxygen sensor.
b.
Remove the stud nuts attaching the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head.
c.
Remove the bolts securing the exhaust manifold to the catalyst case assembly.
d.
Slide the manifold off the studs and remove.
e.
Using the provided gaskets, install the new exhaust manifold on the studs.
f.
Evenly tighten the bolts to the catalyst case to 24 ft.lbs. (32 N-m).
g.
Evenly tighten the exhaust manifold stud nuts to 13 ft.lbs. (17 N-m).
h.
Reinstall the oxygen sensor.
5.
Reinstall the heat shield and reconnect the oxygen sensor electrical connector.
6.
Reinstall the air injection tube.
G.Adjust Idle Speed and Basic Timing
1.
Start the engine and warm it to the normal operating temperature.
2.
Run the engine for at least five seconds between 2000 and 3000 RPM.
