Recall - Excessive CO & HC Emission & Exhaust Leak
No. 290T
October, 1990
To:
All California Dodge and Chrysler-Plymouth Dealers
Subject:
California Emissions Recall # 290T HC and CO Emissions and Exhaust Manifold
Models:
1985 Model Year Plymouth and Dodge Colt Vista 4WD Vehicles Equipped With a 2.0L Carbureted Engine and California Emissions
Control System
The listed model vehicles may emit hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) in excess of the California Emissions Standards. In addition, exhaust
manifolds may leak on some vehicles. To correct these conditions, the following steps are required:
^
Clean choke shaft and replace carburetor primary air bleed jet.
^
Install shim in carburetor choke system to provide leaner choke operation.
^
Install vacuum harness to prevent opening of the carburetor secondary throttle valve during cold engine operation.
^
Adjust idle speed.
^
Inspect the exhaust manifold for exhaust leaks and replace it as necessary.
^
Install new hose routing and recall completion labels.
Caution:
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) will be performing an audit of vehicles serviced for this recall.
Failure to perform all steps of the recall service procedure completely and accurately may cause emissions noncompliance. Further, CARB considers
failure to properly perform emissions recall procedures to be a violation which may subject the servicing dealer to a significant fine.
