A change was made to the automatic transmission planet carrier bolts and their torque specification beginning in February, 1985 at transmission serial
number AL1771 and higher. The new bolt, PN
MD720857, can be identified by the under-cut made on the back side of the bolt head. If necessary, the new bolt is fully interchangeable with the
previously used bolt.
With this change in the bolt, the torque specification has also changed.
The new torque specification for either the new or old bolts has been increased to 13.5 Nm (10 foot pounds). This change should be made to the
specifications given in Step 10 on page 21-107 of the 1985 Colt
Vista Service Manual, publication #81-270-5012.
