Airbag Deployment

Inside Vehicle

1. Open windows and doors of vehicle.
2. Disconnect and remove battery from vehicle. 

CAUTION:

Wait at least 60 seconds after disconnecting battery cable before doing any further work. SRS system is designed to retain enough voltage to
deploy air bag for a short time even after battery has been disconnected.

3. Remove lower steering column cover, then disconnect clockspring red two-pin connector from body wiring connector.
4. Remove glove compartment and out case, then disconnect passenger's air bag module red two-pin connector from body wiring harness.
5. Connect two wires, 20 feet in length, to two leads of special SRS air bag adapter harness A tool No. MB686560, or equivalent. Cover connections

with tape. 
CAUTION:

Other ends of two wires should be connected to each other to prevent unexpected deployment of air bag.

6. Connect SRS air bag adapter harness A to clockspring connector.
7. Connect SRS air bag adapter harness A to passenger red two-pin connector and pass deployment wires out of vehicle.
8. From as far away as possible, disconnect two wires from each other, then connect them to 12 volt battery. Read following cautions before

proceeding.
CAUTIONS:

a. Before deploying air bag in this manner, first check to ensure there is no one in or near vehicle. Wear safety glasses.
b. Inflator will be quite hot immediately after deployment, wait 30 minutes to allow air bag to cool.
c. Do not inhale gas from air bag.

Outside Vehicle

1. Disconnect then remove battery from vehicle. 

CAUTION:

deploy air bag for a short time even after battery has been disconnected.

2. Remove air bag module as described in Airbag Module Replacement.
3. Connect two wires, 20 feet in length, to two leads of special SRS air bag adapter harness B tool No. MB628919 (driver) or harness A No. 

MB686560 (passenger), or equivalent, and cover connections with tape.
CAUTION:

Other ends of two wires should be connected to each other to prevent unexpected deployment of air bag.

4. Place air bag module with pad cover facing upward, in a flat spacious area at least 20 feet away from any people, equipment or other objects.
5. Connect SRS air bag adapter harness B to air bag module connector.
6. Install four nuts and bolts on rear side of module and tie with thick wire.
7. Take SRS air bag adapter harness B, pass beneath a tire and wheel assembly, then connect to air bag module.
8. Insert air bag module onto wheel and tire assembly, then secure with wires attached to bolt holes, with air bag module facing upward. Leave some

space below wheel for deployment wires.

9. Place three tires without rims on top of wheel and tire assembly with air bag module attached.

10. From as far away as possible in a shielded position, disconnect two connected wires from each other and connect them to a 12 volt battery. Read

following cautions before proceeding.
CAUTION:

a. Do not perform deployment outside, if a strong wind is blowing and if there is even a slight breeze air bag should be deployed downwind

from battery.

b. Ensure no people are nearby. Air Bag module will jump upward about 5-10 feet into air.
c. Inflator will be quite hot immediately after deployment, wait 30 minutes to allow air bag to cool.
d. Do not inhale gas from air bag.
