Fuel Pump Relay: Testing and Inspection

Fuel Pump Relay

1.

Check continuity between control relay terminals 1 and 4, with relay coil energized and not energized. To energize coils, apply battery voltage
across terminals 4 and 6. With relay coils energized, there should be continuity between terminals 1 and 4. With relay coils de-energized, there
should be no continuity between terminals 1 and 4.

2.

Check for continuity between control relay terminals 3 and 5, with no battery voltage applied to terminals 4 and 6. With no voltage applied,
continuity should be indicated between terminals 3 and 5.

3.

Check for continuity between control relay terminal 2 and 5, with no battery voltage applied to terminals 4 and 6. With no voltage applied,
continuity should be indicated between terminals 2 and 5.

4.

With no voltage applied to terminals 4 and 6, check for continuity between terminals 6 and 7.  With no voltage applied, continuity should be
indicated.

5.

Switch the battery positive lead to terminal number 8.  With battery voltage applied between terminal 4 and 8, check for continuity between
terminals 2 and 4.  Continuity should be indicated.

6.

If test results are not satisfactory, replace control relay.
