Wheel Bearing: Adjustments
Rear Suspension
1. Raise and support rear of vehicle and remove wheel.
2. Ensure parking brake is fully released.
3. Check wheel bearing endplay with suitable dial indicator. Maximum allowable endplay is 0.008 inch.
4. Check hub and drum starting torque by rotating hub with suitable spring scale. Maximum allowable starting torque is 4.9 lbs.
5. If endplay or starting torque exceed limits, loosen bearing retaining nut, then retorque nut to 108 to 145 lb-ft, for 1989-91 models.
6. If endplay or starting torque are still not within limits, replace wheel bearings as needed.
