Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair
Shock Absorber Replacement
1. Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
2. Disconnect rear brake hose at shock assembly, then separate drive axle from companion flange.
3. Remove shock assembly to axle housing attaching bolts, then the shock assembly from axle housing. Push axle housing down while opening
coupling with a suitable tool.
4. Remove shock assembly attaching bolts from under side trim in rear hatch area, then the shock assembly from rear wheel housing.
5. Compress coil spring using tool L-4514 or equivalent, then remove top end nut.
6. Remove shock insulator, spring seat, dust cover, rubber helper, then the seat.
7. Reverse procedure to install. Torque top end nut to 51-65 ft. lbs. Torque shock insulator attaching bolts to 18-25 ft. lbs. Torque shock assembly to
axle housing attaching bolts to 36-51 ft. lbs.
