On some Chrysler models, an 11 function voice alert system is available as an option. All messages are preceded by a group of beeps and, on some
models, followed with a tone. Warning messages are repeated with each "key on" until the condition is corrected.
Some messages will not be heard unless the vehicle is in forward motion. These are controlled by a distance sensor and the back-up lamp switch. The
distance sensor delays selected messages until the vehicle is in motion and the back-up lamp switch locks out others when in reverse gear.
A volume control is located under the electronic control module and is adjustable. An on-off switch is provided on the module (depending on model
year). If the voice alert system is turned off, all warning lamps and tones will function normally.
DISTANCE SENSOR TEST
Do not use a test lamp for this test.
1.
Disconnect speedometer cable from distance sensor.
2.
Insert a flat bladed screwdriver between the sensor and adapter. Rotate screwdriver 90 degrees to release sensor from adapter spring clip.
3.
Disconnect sensor wiring connector and remove from vehicle.
4.
Using an ohmmeter that will read in tenths of an ohm, connect ohmmeter leads to sensor terminals.
5.
Rotate the sensor shaft and observe ohmmeter. Eight pulses should be observed for each complete revolution of the sensor shaft. Also, each
reading should have a value of 0.5 ohm. Any reading higher would indicate a defective sensor.
