Fan Clutch: Service and Repair

To prevent silicone fluid from draining into fan drive bearing, store with flange facing upward.
Also, the coil spring type of fan clutch cannot be disassembled, serviced or repaired. If defective, replace with a new unit.

1.

 Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

 Remove fan shroud attaching screws and position shroud rearward on engine.

3.

 Remove fan attaching bolts. The fan and fan drive clutch are removed as an assembly.

4.

 On some models it is necessary to partially drain coolant and remove upper radiator hose to provide clearance for fan and clutch removal.

5.

 Separate fan drive clutch from fan.

6.

 Reverse procedure to install. Torque fan attaching bolts to 200 inch pounds.
