Connect battery ground cable, then start engine and operate at idle.

Adjust carbon pile rheostat and engine speed to obtain 15 volts at 1250 RPM. While increasing engine speed, do not allow voltage to exceed 16
volts.

8.

If ammeter reading is not approximately 87 amps, proceed to "Bench Tests."

UNITS W/EXTERNAL REGULATOR

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable and connect suitable tachometer.

2.

Complete test connections as shown.

3.

Connect battery ground cable, then start engine and operate at 1250 RPM with all lights and accessories turned off.

Check voltmeter. If voltage readings are as specified. regulator is satisfactory. If voltage readings are below limits or fluctuate, perform steps 5
through 7. If voltage readings are above limits, proceed to steps 8 through 10.

Ensure voltage regulator is properly grounded through the regulator case, then turn ignition switch to the "Off" position and disconnect voltage
regulator wiring harness connector. Ensure terminals of connector have not spread open to cause open or intermittent connection.

6.

Turn ignition switch to the "On" position, then check battery voltage at voltage regulator wiring harness connector terminals. Both blue and green
terminals should read battery voltage.

7.

If steps 5 and 6 are satisfactory, replace regulator and repeat test.

8.

Turn ignition switch to the "Off" position and disconnect voltage regulator wiring harness connector. Ensure terminals of connector have not
spread open to cause open or intermittent connection.

9.

Turn ignition switch to the "On" position, then check battery voltage at voltage regulator wiring harness connector terminals. Both blue and green
terminals should read battery voltage.

10.

If steps 8 and 9 are satisfactory, replace regulator and repeat test.

UNITS W/REGULATOR IN-ENGINE ELECTRONICS
    Voltage regulator is controlled by Electronic Control Unit.
