On a new vehicle (under 300 miles/500 km), reduce RPM settings by 75 RPM.

Separate carburetor electrical connector from engine wiring harness. Remove (from carburetor electrical connector) the green duty cycle wire and
blue idle solenoid wire. Reconnect carburetor electrical connector to engine wiring harness minus the two removed wires.

(2)

Ground the carburetor switch with a jumper wire.

(3)

Connect a jumper wire between the battery positive post and the solenoid idle stop lead wire (blue). CAUTION: Use care in jumping to the proper
wire on the solenoid. Applying battery voltage to other than the correct wire will damage the wiring harness.

Idle Speed Adjustment

Run the engine in Neutral on Step 2 of the fast idle cam until engine is fully warmed up. This will take five to ten minutes.

(5)

Return engine to idle and proceed promptly with the solenoid idle stop adjustment.

(6)

Open throttle slightly to allow solenoid plunger to extend. Remove solenoid outer screw and spring. Insert a 1/8 inch allen wrench into solenoid
and adjust solenoid idle speed to specification.

(7)

Install screw and spring, and turn in screw until it lightly bottoms out. Remove jumper wire. Set idle speed to specification by turning out solenoid
screw.

(8)

Remove tachometer, unplug and reconnect all hoses, reinstall PCV valve and air cleaner.

(9)

Separate carburetor electrical connector from engine wire harness. Reinstall the green and blue wires in their correct positions. Reconnect to the
engine wire harness.

FAST IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT

Before checking or adjusting any idle speed, check ignition timing and adjust if necessary using the procedure shown in Group 8 Electrical. Disconnect
and plug the vacuum hose at the EGR valve. Also disconnect at the heated air temperature sensor. Remove the air cleaner and disconnect and plug the
3/16 inch diameter control hose at the canister. Remove the PCV valve from the cylinder head cover and allow the valve to draw underhood air.
Disconnect and plug the vacuum hose at the ESA unit. Install tachometer.

FAST IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT

(1)

Model 6280 only - separate carburetor electrical connector from engine wiring harness. Remove (from carburetor electrical connector) the green
duty cycle wire and blue idle solenoid wire. Reconnect electrical connector to engine wiring harness minus the two removed wires.

(2)

Ground the carburetor switch with a jumper wire.

(3)

Open the throttle and place the fast idle adjusting screw on the second highest step of the fast idle cam.

(4)

With the choke fully open, turn the fast idle adjusting screw until the correct fast idle speed is obtained.

(5)

Return to idle then reposition the adjusting screw on to the second highest step of the fast idle cam to verify fast idle speed. Readjust if necessary.

(6)

Return to idle and turn the engine off. Unplug and reconnect the vacuum hoses at the EGR valve and canister. Remove jumper wire.

(7)

Model 6280 only - separate carburetor electrical connector from engine wire harness. Reinstall the green and blue wires in their correct positions.
