The cylinder head cover gasket on the listed vehicles may dislocate and allow engine oil to leak. Depending on the location and size of the leak, an
engine compartment fire could result.
To prevent this condition, dealers are to install a revised cylinder head cover and silicone rubber adhesive sealant (RTV) in place of the present valve
cover and gasket.
Important:
Some of the involved vehicles may still be in dealer stock. Be sure to complete the service on them before retail delivery.
Owner notifications will be mailed in stages as sufficient parts for each stage are received. Owners of the earliest built vehicles will be notified in
February. Subsequent notifications, in order of vehicle build date, will follow during the first quarter, 1990. Involved dealers will be informed prior to
the subsequent owner mailings.
Details of this service action are explained in the following sections. As an additional service aid, a videotape demonstrating the service procedure is
included in the February, 1990 Master Tech program.
Vehicle List
Each dealer to whom involved'vehicles were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same location) will receive a list of them with this letter arranged in
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence. Owners known to Chrysler are also identified. The lists are for dealer reference in arranging for service
of involved vehicles.
Each Dodge or Chrysler-Plymouth dealer without a Vehicle List will receive an information copy of this letter by Compak Mail for use in performing the
service on involved vehicles upon request.
Parts
Parts packages, PN C3940364, are being shipped free of charge to all involved dealers for service of affected vehicles. Each dealer to whom involved
vehicles were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same location) will receive enough parts packages to service 75% of those vehicles.

Initial parts distributions will be made in separate shipments prior to owner notification for stages 1 and 2 of the recall.

Parts will be available for dealer order after distribution and dealer notification for stage 2. Orders placed before that time will be rejected, to
ensure adequate stock for the initial distributions.

No distribution will be made after stage 2. Order as needed for subsequent repairs.
Dealers to whom no involved vehicles were invoiced will each receive 10 parts packages.
