THIS TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN APPLIES ONLY TO VEHICLE'S BUILT BETWEEN MDH 04-02-XX AND 10-01-XX EQUIPPED
WITH 3.3L ENGINES WITH ENGINE DATE CODE 1-475 THROUGH 1-615.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some 1990 - 91 3.3L engines with a date code of 1-475 through 1-615 may exhibit an oil leak at the rear of engine in the area of the rear crankshaft seal.
This oil leak may be the result of excessive engine thrust bearing wear.
Diagnosis:

Verify vehicle MDH and Engine Date Code. The engine date code is located on the upper intake manifold plenum. Figure 1.
Raise the vehicle, remove the torque converter dust cover. Inspect the rear crankshaft seal retainer and torque converter drive plate for evidence of oil
leakage at the rear crankshaft seal area.
If leakage is evident, check the crankshaft end play using the following procedure:

Position a dial indicator with a magnetic base dial on the front of the oil pan.
