Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair
Input Shaft Cover Seal Replacement
REMOVAL
1. Remove Power Transfer Unit (PTU) as outlined under "Power Transfer Unit/Service and Repair.
2. Remove PTU end cover attaching bolts.
3. Using suitable tool, tap end cover to separate cover from case.
4. Using suitable tool, remove bearing race from end cover.
5. Using seal removal tool No. 7794-A, or equivalent, remove cover seal.
6. Remove oil slinger.
7. Remove input shaft and ring gear from case.
8. Using seal puller tool No. 7794-A, or equivalent, remove seal.
INSTALLATION
1. Using seal driver tool No. C-4657 and handle tool No. C-4171, or equivalents, install seal with spring side facing ring gear. Drive in seal until it
bottoms against case shoulder.
2. Install input shaft and oil slinger.
3. Apply MOPAR Gasket Maker part No. 4318081 and Loctite Gasket Eliminator No. 518, or equivalents, to sealing surface of end cover, then
install. Ensure to not damage input shaft cover seal.
4. Using seal installation tool No. MD998803, or equivalent, install end cover seal with spring side facing tool.
5. Using bearing installation tool No. 6522, or equivalent, install end cover bearing.
6. Install end cover and torque bolts to 20 ft. lbs. in sequence shown.
7. Check and fill fluids as required.
