Backing Plate: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. With wheel and brake drum removed, remove brake shoe assemblies and disconnect brake cable from parking brake lever.
2. Remove rear axle shaft from vehicle.
2. Using a suitable tool such as an aircraft type hose clamp compress the flared legs of cable retainer and pull brake cable out of support plate.
3. Disconnect hydraulic brake tube from wheel cylinder.
4. Remove support to wheel cylinder attaching nuts and washers.
5. Remove brake support and rear bearing hub mounting bolts.
6. Remove rear bearing hub unit, brake support plate and gasket from rear axle.

INSTALLATION
1. Install rear bearing hub unit, brake support plate and gasket on rear axle. Tighten the rear bearing hub unit/support plate to axle attaching bolts to
108 Nm (80 ft lb).

2. Apply RTV sealant around wheel cylinder mounting surface.
3. Install wheel cylinder onto brake support, and tighten the wheel cylinder to brake support plate attaching bolts to 8 Nm (75 in lb).
4. Attach hydraulic brake tube to wheel cylinder and tighten tube to wheel cylider fitting to 17 Nm (145 in lb).
5. Installl the rear axle shaft.
6. Insert parking brake cable into support plate and attach cable to parking brake lever.
