Valve Guide Wear Measurement

1.

Insert valve into guide leaving .400 inch above cylinder gasket surface.

2.

Firmly attach a dial indicator to cylinder head so indicator needle is in contact with valve margin.

3.

Move valve to and from indicator and note total indicator reading, Fig. 7.

4.

Total indicator reading shows valve guide wear. Wear must not exceed .020 inch for intake valves, or .027 inch for exhaust valves.
