Complete step 3 right away to prevent further wear to the existing hose.

Order a new hose as described above in the PARTS procedure and install it as soon as available.

REIMBURSEMENT

Complete the recall Claim Form promptly for each vehicle serviced. (See Chapter 6, 1980 Warranty Policy and Procedure Manual, for complete claim
processing instructions.)

If a claim form is not available, use a WRO, (one WRO per claim). Fill in the labor operation number and time allowance and identify the claim as
"RECALL #339 - WATER PUMP HOSE TO SPLASH SHIELD INTERFERENCE." Do not include other non-recall claims on the same WRO.

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION RECALL -
WATER PUMP HOSE TO SPLASH SHIELD INTERFERENCE

Dear Chrysler Car Owner:

Your 1.6L engine-equipped car, identified on the enclosed Claim Form, requires a special splash-shield modification to avoid damage to the engine
water pump hose. Preventive modification now will do two things: one, keep you from being inconvenienced unnecessarily at a later time, and two, avoid
the possibility of expensive engine damage.

The modification will be made free of charge. It consists of trimming away a part of the splash shield that could rub against the water pump hose. Your
dealer can perform this modification quickly, in less than one-half hour. At the same time, the dealer will check the water pump hose for damage which
may have been caused by contact with the splash shield. In most cases the hose will not have been damaged. However, if it has been, the dealer will
replace it for you without cost. This additional service can be done in less than an hour. (If your dealer does not have the hose in stock, the part will be
ordered for replacement at a later appointment.)

Instructions for the service have been forwarded to every Chrysler-Plymouth and Dodge Dealer. Please call your dealer, as quickly as possible, and make
an appointment for this important service. Take the enclosed Claim Form with you and give it to your dealer. It will be used by the dealer and Chrysler to
record the repair completion.

If you have any difficulty getting the recall service, please contact the Chrysler Zone Office in your area. (It is listed under "Service Assistance" in your
Operator's Manual.) The Zone Office will arrange for prompt servicing of your car.
