Engine - Late Model Year Running Changes
NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO 2.0L DOHC TURBO AND NON-TURBO ENGINES.
MODELS:
1992 (BD) Laser/Talon
DISCUSSION:
A number of changes were made to the 2.0L engine used in the subject models in May 1992. The Vehicles built after VIN xxxxxxxxNE005602 have
these changes incorporated. Details on any revised repair procedures relating to these changes are listed in the 1993 Engine, Chassis & Body Service
Manual (Publication No. 81-270-3500) and should be referred to when doing any repairs to vehicles with these changes.
The changes include the following:
CYLINDER BLOCK
1.
The number of transmission/engine attaching bolts increased from 4 bolts to 5.
2.
New main bearing cap bolts, tightening method and use of plastic gauge to fit bearings.
3.
Width of the crankshaft bearing journal decreased.
PISTON AND PISTON RING
1.
Height and width of piston in the pin area decreased.
2.
Length of piston pin decreased from 72 mm to 62 mm.
3.
Diameter of piston pin increased from 21 mm to 22 mm.
CONNECTING ROD
1.
Web thickness of connecting rod decreased.
2.
Connecting rod bearing cap bolts changed from M9 to M8.
3.
New procedure for fitting bearings using plastic gauge incorporated.
CRANKSHAFT
1.
Crankshaft bearing journal and connecting rod bearing journal width decreased.
2.
Crankshaft web thickness increased.
3.
Oil clearance for bearing journals reduced.
4.
The number of flywheel to drive plate attaching bolts increased from 6 to 7 bolts.
ENGINE MOUNT
1.
The roll stopper bracket was moved from the engine to the transmission.
