Ball Joint: Service and Repair
Upper Ball Joint Replacement
NOTE: Check ball joint for correct starting torque as follows:
1. Several times deflect ball joint stud from side to side.
2. Mount two nuts on ball joint, then using a suitable torque wrench measure starting torque. Starting torque should be within 26-87 lb-in.
3. If starting torque exceeds upper limit, replace lower arm assembly.
4. If starting torque is below lower limit, the ball joint may still be used unless it has drag or excessive play.
