Fuel Rail: Description and Operation
Fuel, Vapor And Return Line Components (2WD Turbocharged)
FUEL SUPPLY LINE
The fuel supply line delivers fuel from a high pressure electric fuel pump (mounted in the fuel tank), to the in-line fuel accumulator. From the
accumulator to the in-line fuel filter. It is then delivered to the fuel pressure regulator mounted on the fuel rail via a flexible high pressure fuel
hose. The line is of steel construction and is fitted in place with threaded pressure fittings.
FUEL RAIL
The fuel rail is a metal tube with threaded fittings, that forms a connection between the fuel supply/return hoses, the Fuel Pressure Regulator and
the Fuel Injectors. It is located on top of the engine. The fuel rail serves to deliver fuel to the injectors and helps stabilize fuel pressure at the
injectors.
FUEL RETURN LINE
The fuel return line delivers routes fuel directly from the return outlet on the fuel pressure regulator to the return inlet on the fuel tank. The line is
of steel construction and is fitted in place with conventional fuel hoses with clamps.
VAPOR RECOVERY LINE
The vapor recovery line routes fuel vapors from the outlet on the fuel tank through the rollover valve (fuel check valve) to the charcoal vapor
recovery canister. The line from the fuel tank to the check valve is of steel construction with conventional fuel hoses and clamps attaching it to the
valve and the tank outlet. The remaining portion of the line is vapor hose with clamps attaching it to the valve and the charcoal canister.
