Blower Motor: Service and Repair

VANS, WAGONS & FRONT SECTIONS W/STANDARD HEATER

LESS A/C

1980-87 Models

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and blower motor wires.
2. Remove 7 screws holding back plate to heater housing and remove blower assembly.
3. Remove spring clip holding blower wheel to motor and pull off blower wheel.
4. Remove vent tube from motor.
5. Remove 2 nuts holding blower motor to back plate and remove blower motor.
6. Reverse procedure to install.

WITH A/C

1980-87 Models

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove top half of shroud by removing 2 screws from shroud to radiator support and two screws holding the halves of the shroud together. Top

right screw on vehicles with six cylinder engine is hidden behind discharge line muffler. Move top half of shroud out of the way.

3. Disconnect blower motor electrical connector and remove blower motor cooling tube.
4. Remove the three retaining nuts from studs holding blower motor.
5. Pull A/C suction and discharge lines inboard and upward while pulling blower motor assembly from housing.
6. Remove blower motor.
7. Reverse procedure to install.

VANS, WAGONS & FRONT SECTIONS W/AUXILIARY HEATER

1980-87

With Auxiliary Air Conditioning

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect blower motor electrical connectors.
3. Remove blower motor assembly to floor attaching screws, then the blower motor assembly.
4. Reverse procedure to install.

Less Auxiliary Air Conditioning

1. Remove heater core, refer to "Heater Core, Replace" procedure.
2. Remove blower motor to heater assembly attaching screws, then the blower motor.
