Deck Lid Carpet Retention

THIS REPAIR IS COMPATIBLE WITH CHRYSLER'S MOBILE SERVICE PROGRAM AND DOES NOT REQUIRE HOISTS OR OTHER FULL
SERVICE FACILITY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT.

NOTE:

THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO OCT. 14, 1998 (MDH 1014XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

With the deck lid raised, the deck lid carpet sags along the top/leading edge of the deck lid between the two top latch receptacles, and occasionally along
the sides or rear edge of the deck lid. The deck lid carpet is retained around the edges by hook and loop fastener. The hook side of the hook and loop
fastener uses a pressure-sensitive adhesive backing which attaches to the deck lid inner metal that fails, allowing the deck lid carpet to sag.

DIAGNOSIS:

With the deck lid raised, inspect the deck lid carpet hook and loop fastener for any areas that have failed to stick to the deck lid inner. If any failed
adhesive areas are found, perform the Repair Procedure.

Pushpins

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves installing additional pushpins to the under side of the deck lid to retain the deck lid carpet.

1.

Cut and remove any area(s) of hook and loop fastener where the adhesive to the deck lid inner has failed.

2.

Punch or cut 6 to 9 mm (1/4 to 3/8 in.) diameter hole(s) into the deck lid carpet where the additional fastener(s) is required.

3.

Use a center punch to mark the hole location(s) on the deck lid inner metal for the additional pushpin fastener(s).

CAUTION:

A DRILL STOP SET TO 3 MM (1/8 IN.) MUST BE USED IN STEP 4 TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE DECK LID METAL EXTERIOR.

4.

Drill 6.0 mm (15/64 in.) hole(s) at the location(s) center punched in step 3.

5.

Insert pushpin(s) (0QD62LAZ) through the hole(s) cut in the carpet, then insert the pushpin(s) into the hole(s) drilled in step 4.

6.

Vacuum the trunk area to remove metal shavings created during the hole drilling procedure.
