Thermostat: Description and Operation
The engine cooling thermostat is a wax pellet driven, reverse poppet choke type. This design provides the fastest warm up possible by preventing
leakage and to guarantee a minimum engine operating temperature of 90°C (195°F). The thermostat automatically reaches wide open at a temperature
of approximately 102°C (215°F). This provides unrestricted flow to the radiator as temperature of the coolant rises in hot weather. Coolant
temperatures above 102°C (215°F) are controlled by the radiator, fan, and ambient air temperature, not the thermostat.
