Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Testing and Inspection
Front

To properly inspect the shock absorbers on the front of the Prowler, the shock absorbers need to be removed from the vehicle for inspection.

1. Inspect for a damaged or broken coil spring.
2. Inspect for damaged, worn or broken shock absorber lower mounting/isolator bushings.
3. Inspect the upper mounting bearing /isolator bushing on the shock absorber for damage, breakage and excessive wear and/or looseness.
4. Check for a broken or damaged coil spring lower seat on the shock absorber.
5. Check for a broken or damaged coil spring upper retainer.
6. Check to be sure the jounce bumper is on the rod of the shock absorber. Also, inspect the jounce bumper for signs of damage or deterioration.
7. Check to be sure the plastic collar is on the rod of the shock absorber.
8. Check shock absorber for evidence of fluid running from the upper end of the fluid reservoir. (Actual leakage will be a stream of fluid running

down the side and dripping off the bottom of the shock absorber). A slight amount of seepage between the shock rod and seal is not unusual and
does not affect the performance of the shock absorber.
