Sundance L4-135 2.2L SOHC (1987)
Idle Speed: Adjustments
NOTE: Before checking or adjusting any idle speed, check ignition timing and adjust.
1. Set parking brake and place transaxle in neutral. Turn off all lights and accessories. Connect a tachometer to the engine. Start engine and allow it
to warm up on the slowest speed step of the fast idle cam until it reaches normal operating temperature. Return engine to idle.
2. Unplug connector at radiator fan and install a jumper wire so fan will run continuously.
3. Remove PCV valve from crankcase vent module and allow valve to draw underhood air.
4. Disconnect oxygen feedback system test connector located on left fender shield.
5. Disconnect wiring from the kicker vacuum control solenoid located on the left fender shield.
Adjusting Idle RPM With Solenoid Kicker
6. If engine rpm is not to specifications, turn the idle speed screw on top of the solenoid kicker until the correct idle speed is obtained.
7. Reconnect 02 connector, PCV valve and solenoid wiring.
8. Increase engine speed to 2500 rpm for 15 seconds, then return to idle.
9. Remove jumper wire and connect radiator fan connector.
After steps 8 and 9 are completed, the idle speed may change slightly. This is normal and engine speed should not be readjusted.
