SYMPTOM/CONDITION
A shudder which occurs between 5 and 15 miles per hour on light acceleration, rather than under heavy throttle acceleration, and is more apparent with
more than one passenger in the car.
DIAGNOSIS
Use the following procedure to verify the condition:
1.
Road test the vehicle. This condition cannot be properly diagnosed on a hoist.
2.
Verify that the condition occurs between 5 and 15 miles per hour and is present in drive only. This condition is very speed sensitive, and is most
noticeably felt as a side-toside (not torsional) shake of the vehicle.
3.
In an area where space and safety permits, perform full lock tight circle turns in both directions, in drive and reverse, to verify that the engine
mount grounding and CV joint tripod bottoming is not the cause.
NOTE:
OTHER CONTRIBUTING FACTORS TO THIS CONDITION MAY BE:
1.
RADIAL AND LATERAL RUNOUT OF THE FRONT TIRES MISFIT, EXCESSIVE FRICTION, OR WEAR OF THE INNER
CV JOINTS.
2.
EXCESSIVE TRANSFER SHAFT RUNOUT IN THE TRANSAXLE.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
This procedure outlines the replacement of intermediate driveshaft bearing mounting bracket and mounting bolts.
Under no circumstances should spacers of any kind be used to reposition the existing bracket to another position. Even with longer bolts, this could result
in loss of bolt retention and driveshaft separation from the vehicle.
1.
Disconnect battery and raise vehicle on hoist. Remove and discard the two bolts retaining the mounting bracket to the engine.
2.
While holding the driveshaft in place, rotate the bracket to expose the two bolts which secure the bearing to the bracket.
3.
Remove the two bolts and discard the bracket. Position the new bracket from the kit to the bearing and install the mounting bolts loosely.
