Vacuum Brake Booster: Service and Repair
REMOVING POWER BRAKE UNIT
1. Remove nuts attaching master cylinder to power brake unit.
2. Remove brake tubes between master cylinder and valve assembly.
3. Remove master cylinder.
4. Remove the clutch cable mounting bracket (manual transmission vehicles). Pull wiring harness away from and up the shock tower. If more slack is
required, disconnect wiring harness from bulkhead disconnect.
5. Disconnect vacuum hose from check valve on power brake unit.
6. From under the instrument panel position a small screwdriver between the center tang on the retainer clip and the pin in the brake pedal.
7. Rotate the screwdriver enough to allow the retainer clip center tang to pass over the end of the brake pedal pin and pull from pin. Discard the
retainer clip.
8. Remove four power brake mounting nuts.
9. Remove power brake unit from vehicle.
10. Do not remove check valve assembly from booster as an easy way of removing hose, always disconnect hose from check valve.
