Wastegate Solenoid: Description and Operation
Solenoid Pack
The wastegate solenoid is used to control the amount of turbo boost. The engine controller controls the wastegate solenoid by constantly applying and
removing the ground from its circuit. The amaount of time that the wastegate solenoid remains ENERGIZED (the ground is applied by the engine
controller) is called the duty cycle. The engine controller adjusts the turbo boost pressure by varying the duty cycle of the wastegate solenoid. The duty
cycle changes depending upon inputs that the engine controller receives. The following is a list of inputs the engine controller uses to determine the
proper wastegate solenoid duty cycle:

Throttle Position Sensor
^
Vehicle Distance (Speed) Sensor
^
Knock (Detonation) Sensor
^
Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor

Oxygen Sensor
