Evaporator Case: Service and Repair
Heater-A/C Housing Removal and Installation
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
1. From inside the engine compartment, disconnect batterv negative cable.
2. Discharge A/C refrigerant and disconnect lines at unit.
3. Drain radiator and disconnect heater hoses at unit Tape heater tubes to keep from leaking during removal.
4. Remove A/C condensate drain and disconnect vacuum lines.
5. Remove steering column cover.
6. Position front seat or right front seat full rear.
7. Remove right A-pillar trim.
8. Remove right cowl side trim.
9. Remove glove box.
10. Remove right instrument panel roll-up screw.
11. Remove center bezel.
12. Remove lower center module cover.
13. Remove floor console.
14. Remove instrument panel support brace (from steering column opening to right cowl side at bottom of instrument panel).
15. Remove instrument panel to support bracket (below glove box opening).
16. Remove ash receiver.
17. Remove radio.
18. Remove panel top cover.
19. Remove 3 right side panel to fence (below windshield) attaching screws.
20. Pull right lower side of instrument panel rearward.
21. Remove center distribution and defroster adapter ducts.
22. Disconnect relay module.
23. Remove instrument panel to unit bracket.
24. Remove lower air distribution duct
25. Disconnect blower motor wire connector.
26. Disconnect demister hoses from top of unit
27. For NonATC, disconnect the temperature control cable flag from the bottom of the heater- A/C unit and unclip the cable from the left side of the
heat distribution duct Swing the cable out of the way to the left.
28. For NonATC, disconnect the vacuum lines at the unit.
29. For ATC, disconnect the instrument panel wiring from the rear face of the ATC unit.
30. Fold floor right side carpet back (except AC body).
31. From engine compartment, remove 4 unit attaching nuts.
32. Remove unit hanger strap lower screw, and rotate strap.
33. Move heater-A/C unit rearward to clear mounting studs and lower.
34. Remove demister adapter from top of unit
35. While pulling the lower right of instrument panel rearward, slide unit upright from under instrument panel for AP-body.
To install, reverse the preceding operation.
