Brake Bleeding: Service and Repair
Antilock Brake System Bleeding Procedures
During bleeding procedures ensure brake fluid level remains close to the Full level in the reservoir.
PRESSURE BLEEDING
1. Turn ignition to the Off position.
2. De-pressurize the system as outlined in "De-Pressurizing Hydraulic Accumulator" under "Precautions."
3. Remove both reservoir caps.
4. Install pressure bleeder adapter on front reservoir port and a dummy cap on the rear port of the reservoir.
5. Attach bleeding equipment to bleeder adapter. Charge pressure bleeder to approximately 20 psi.
6. Connect a clear hose to bleed screw and place other end into a container partially filled with clean brake fluid.
7. With pressure bleeder turn On, open bleeder screw 3/4 to 1 full turn allowing fluid to flow into container.
8. Leave bleeder screw open until a clear, bubble-free flow is coming from hose in container. If the reservoir has been drained or the hydraulic
assembly has been changed, slowly depress the brake pedal one or two times while the bleed screw is open. This will help purge the system of air.
9. Torque bleed screw to 7.5 ft. lbs.
10. Steps 7 through 9 should be performed in the following order:
a. Left rear.
b. Right rear.
c. Left front.
d. Right front.
11. After bleeding is completed, remove pressure bleeding equipment and adapter by closing pressure bleeder valve and slowly unscrewing bleeder
adapter from hydraulic assembly.
12. Using a suitable syringe or equivalent remove excess fluid from reservoir or full reservoir to the Full level.
13. Install reservoir caps and turn on ignition to allow ABS pump to charge the accumulator.
MANUAL BLEEDING
1. Turn ignition to the Off position.
2. De-pressurize the system as outlined in "De-Pressurizing Hydraulic Accumulator" under "Precautions."
3. Connect a clear hose to bleed screw and place other end into a container partially filled with clean brake fluid.
4. Slowly pump brake pedal several times using full strokes, continue to hold pressure on the pedal at the bottom of it's travel.
5. With pressure on pedal, open bleeder screw 3/4 to 1 full turn allowing fluid to flow into container.
6. Leave bleeder screw open until fluid no longer flows from hose. Tighten bleed screw and release pedal. Ensure bleeder screw is tight prior to
releasing the brake pedal.
7. Repeat steps 4 through 6 until clear, bubble-free fluid flows from the hose. Perform bleed procedure in the following order:
a. Left rear.
b. Right rear.
c. Left front.
d. Right front.
8. Torque bleed screw to 7.5 ft. lbs.
9. After bleeding is completed, Using a suitable syringe or equivalent remove excess fluid from reservoir or full reservoir to the Full level.
10. Install reservoir caps and turn on ignition to allow ABS pump to charge the accumulator.
