SYMPTOM/CONDITION
A concern of higher than expected power steering efforts and/or reduced steering returnability may result if the lower universal joint on the steering shaft
is rubbing on the toe plate and cover. To correct this condition perform the following procedure:
CORRECTION PROCEDURE
Step A
1.
Remove the left front scuff plate and the left side cowl trim panel. Pull the carpet and padding rearward for access to the lower portion of the
steering column.
2.
Remove the two zip nuts from the toe plate and slide the silencer and seal upward on the column for access to the four (4) screws holding the toe
plate to the floor pan. Remove the four (4) screws.

Push the toe plate up approximately 1/2" and hold in this position (Figure 1). Using a sharp awl, punch four (4) new holes in the floor pan.
Reinstall the four (4) previously removed screws.
NOTE:
THE TOE PLATE GASKET SHOULD BE SUFFICIENT TO COVER THE ORIGINAL SCREW HOLES. IF NOT, SEAL
ORIGINAL HOLES WITH SILICONE SEALER. DO NOT LEAVE ANY EXPOSED OPENINGS IN THE FLOOR PAN.
