Intake Manifold: Service and Repair
1.
On models with fuel injection, relieve fuel system pressure as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES.
2.
On all models, disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
3.
Remove air cleaner and disconnect all vacuum lines, electrical wiring and fuel lines from throttle body or carburetor.
4.
Remove throttle linkage. Loosen power steering pump and remove belt.
5.
Remove power brake vacuum hose from intake manifold.
6.
Disconnect EGR tube from manifold and remove water hoses from water crossover.
7.
Raise and support vehicle. Remove exhaust pipe from manifold.
8.
Remove power steering pump assembly and set aside. Remove intake manifold retaining bolts.
9.
Lower vehicle and remove intake manifold.
10.
Remove exhaust manifold retaining nuts.
11.
Remove exhaust manifold.
12.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Tighten manifold nuts or bolts, starting at center and progressing outward in both directions, to specifications.
