SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Some 1984 front wheel drive vans and wagons may experience inadequate retention of the front header reading lamp assembly to the mounting bracket.
This condition may be evidenced by one or more of the following for which replacement of the assembly is recommended.

Lamp assemblies with build dates between 0014 (January 1, 1984) and 0914 (March 31, 1984). This build date is ink stamped on the forward side
of the light blocking wall of the lamp assembly.
^
Evidence of heat distortion of the light blocking walls.
^
Area between forward mounting tab and adjacent light blocking wall is solid so that tab cannot flex.
^
Fractured or missing mounting tabs.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
Lamp assemblies with build dates listed above should not be used as replacements.
1.
Remove lamp assembly from vehicle..
2.
Before installing new assembly, cut the black wire with yellow tracer at the back of each switch and tape the end of each wire. This modification
will eliminate the courtesy function.
