Intake Manifold: Service and Repair
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Valve covers as previously outlined.
2. Engine coolant
3. Wiring harness as required
4. A.I.R. pump and bracket
5. Distributor cap
6. Distributor Mark position of rotor
7. Heater and radiator hoses from manifold
8. Power brake vacuum booster pipe and bracket
9. Vacuum hoses as required
10. Intake manifold bolts
11. Intake manifold
CLEAN
^ Gasket material
^ Loose RTV from front and rear ridges of cylinder block
^ Sealing surfaces with degreaser
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. The intake manifold gaskets are marked "Right Side" and "Left Side" (carbureted only). Use them only as indicated to maintain designed
efficiency of this engine.
2. Place a 3mm diameter (3/16") bead of GM 1052917. RTV sealer or equivalent on each ridge.
3. Intake gaskets
4. Cut the new gaskets where indicated to clear push rods.
5. Intake manifold on engine
6. Manifold bolts and nuts
Tighten
^ In the sequence shown - 31 Nm (23 ft. lb.)
7. Vacuum hoses
8. Power brake vacuum booster pipe and bracket.
Tighten
^ Pipe fitting - 25 Nm (18 ft. lb.)
^ Bracket - 30 Nm (22 ft. lb.)
9. Heater and radiator hoses to manifold
10. Distributor
CAUTION Turn distributor housing to line up rotor with the mark on the distributor housing.
11. Distributor clamp finger tight
12. Distributor cap
13. A.I.R. pump and bracket
14. Wiring harness
15. Both valve covers as previously outlined.
ADJUST
^ A.I.R. pump belt
^ Base timing
Tighten
^ Distributor clamp bolt - 34 Nm (25 ft. lb.)
INSPECT
^
For proper timing adjustment
^ Coolant level
^ For fluid leaks
