Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair

Fuel Pressure Regulator

REMOVAL:

1.

Relieve the fuel system pressure. See: Fuel Filter/Fuel Pressure Release/Service and Repair

2.

Clean the dirt from the regulator retaining ring.

3.

Remove the vacuum line from the regulator.

4.

Compress the retaining ring with snap ring pliers and remove the ring.

5.

Lift and twist to remove the pressure regulator.

6.

Cover or plug the regulator housing to prevent contamination from entering the fuel rail.

INSTALLATION:

1.

If the pressure regulator is not new, both O-rings must be replaced.

2.

Lubricate both O-rings with clean engine oil.

3.

Seat the regulator with even pressure.

4.

Install the regulator retaining ring.

The ring should "snap" into place.

5.

Turn the ignition switch to the ON position for two seconds, then turn it OFF for ten seconds.  Again, turn it ON and check for fuel leaks.
