Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

Evaporator

Tools Required:

J 38042 Dual O-Ring Joint Separator

-

J 39500 ACR 4; Machine

Important

-

Brazed fittings are on the condenser and evaporator. These fittings cannot be turned because the fitting is brazed to the pipe. It is important
that the service technician recognize which fitting is to be turned and use backup wrenches. The brazed fitting not e turned is always the same
color as the pipe it is brazed to (unpainted or unplatted aluminum).

Remove or Disconnect

-

Recover refrigerant from A/C system, refer to "ACR 4; Station Refrigerant Recovery" Operation Manual. See: Refrigerant

1. Accumulator. See: Accumulator HVAC
2. Blower resistor assembly (C61 & C67) Blower Control Module (C68 & CJ2).
3. Vacuum tank.
4. High-side (liquid) refrigerant line.
5. Blower Motor.
6. Screws and wire harness retaining clips.
7. Screws and accumulator bracket.
8. Bolts, and heater and A/C module assembly heat shield.
9. Bolts (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) attaching heater and A/C module assembly to front of dash.

10. Cut module assembly insulator along "cut" one, raising vehicle to access underside of insulator.
11. Heater and A/C module assembly insulator.
12. Bolt (7) attaching heater and A/C module assembly to rear of dash.
13. Heater and A/C module assembly (blower portion).
14. Evaporator.

Install or Connect

1. Evaporator into vehicle.
2. Heater and A/C module assembly (blower portion) into vehicle.
3. Heater and A/C module assembly insulator.
4. Bolts (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) attaching heater and A/C module assembly to front of dash.

Bolts to 5 Nm (44 lb. in.).

5. Bolt (7) attaching heater and A/C module assembly to rear of dash.

Bolts to 5 Nm (44 lb. in.).

6. Bolts and heater and A/C module assembly heater shield.

-

Bolts to 5Nm (44 lb. in.).

7. Screws and accumulator bracket.

-

Screws to 3 Nm (27 lb. in.).

8. Screws and wire harness retaining clips.
9. Blower motor and fan.

10. High-side (liquid) refrigerant line.
11. Vacuum tank.
12. Blower resistor assembly (C61 & C67) Blower Control Module (C68 & CJ2).
13. Accumulator.

Evacuate, charge and leak test A/C system.
