"CLICKING" NOISE FROM COWL AREA ON 1983 GRAND PRIX, BONNEVILLE AND PARISIENNE MODELS WITH 5.0L V-8 ENGINE (VIN CODE H)
NOTICE:
Information contained in this bulletin supersedes bulletin 83-T-24. Bulletin 83-T-24 should be removed and discarded.
A "clicking" noise from the cowl area on 1983 Grand Prix, Bonneville and Parisienne models with 5.0L V-8 engines (VIN Code H) may be traced to the
cowl mounted fast idle solenoid relay.
The "clicking" is usually heard on non-A/C cars or in the A/C "off" mode in response to throttle position change.
The relay controls the fast idle solenoid as follows:
NON-A/C CARS OR A/C "OFF"
Solenoid energized with closed throttle mode to provide additional induction air for proper catalytic converter operation during deceleration. Solenoid
de-energized with open throttle mode.
A/C "ON"
Solenoid energized constantly for A/C "on", idle speed up.
CORRECTION
This noise can be eliminated by replacing the fast idle solenoid relay with an updated version (part number 14073412) which incorporates a sound
deadening mount.
