Timing Cover: Service and Repair
On all engines the cover oil seal may be replaced without taking off the timing gear cover. After removing the vibration damper, pry out the old seal
with a screwdriver. Install the new seal with the lip or open end toward inside of cover and drive it into position.

Remove water pump, then, on vehicles equipped with A/C, remove compressor and mounting bracket and position aside.

Remove vibration damper, then disconnect lower radiator hose from cover and heater hose from water pump.
3.
Remove cover retaining bolts and cover.
4.
Thoroughly clean sealing surfaces of front cover and engine block, then apply a continuous thin bead of anerobic sealant #1052357 or equivalent
to front cover sealing surface.
5.
Install front cover and water pump on engine, then install retaining bolts and nut and torque to specifications. Final torquing of bolts must be
completed within five minutes of installing the cover.
6.
Reconnect hoses and install vibration damper.
7.
Install A/C compressor and mounting bracket.
8.
Service cooling system as required.
