Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair

RIGHT SIDE

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove exhaust manifold heat shield nuts and then the shield.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove exhaust catalytic converter pipe.
5. Remove heated oxygen sensor electrical connector from bracket.
6. Disconnect spark plug wires from plugs.
7. Lower vehicle and remove exhaust manifold studs/bolts and then manifold.
8. Remove exhaust manifold gasket and clean cylinder head mating surface.
9. Reverse procedure to install.

LEFT SIDE

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove EGR valve adapter from exhaust manifold.
3. Remove oil level indicator and tube.
4. Remove exhaust manifold heat shield nuts and then the shield.
5. Raise and support vehicle.
6. Remove exhaust catalytic converter pipe and oxygen sensor connector.
7. Disconnect spark plug wires and lower vehicle.
8. Remove exhaust manifold studs/bolts and then the manifold.
9. Remove exhaust manifold gasket and clean mating surfaces.

10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Install new exhaust manifold gasket.
b. Inspect EGR outlet tube for leaks.
