DISASSEMBLE
A shim may be installed between the rear brake caliper mounting plate and axle shaft tube flange on housing. This shim centers the rear brake
caliper and pads over the brake rotor, ensuring even brake pad assembly pressure during braking. This shim may have to be changes when the
housing is replaced.
1. Remove rear cover and drain rear axle fluid Fig. 6 .
2. Remove rear axle assembly. Refer to appropriate chassis chapter for procedure.
3. Remove rear brake pipe assemblies from rear brake hose junction block, then junction block from housing.
4. Remove rear brake pipe and hose assemblies from housing.
5. Remove brake shaft bearing assemblies and seals, then caliper anchor brackets and mounting plates.
6. Remove shim, if installed.
7. Remove differential case, then differential drive pinion gear.
