Brake Master Cylinder Components

DISASSEMBLE

1. Master cylinder reservoir cap and diaphragm from master cylinder reservoir.

NOTE:  Wipe cap and reservoir clean before removing.

2. Empty brake fluid from master cylinder reservoir.

NOTE:  Use care not to damage the piston bore or retainer groove during primary piston retainer ring removal.

3. Master cylinder primary piston retainer ring while depressing primary piston.
4. Primary piston, secondary piston, master cylinder secondary piston spring retainer and master cylinder secondary piston spring. To remove parts,

apply clean, low pressure dry compressed air into outlet port near closed end of bore with other outlet port plugged.

5. Master cylinder secondary piston seals and secondary piston spring retainer from secondary piston. Inspect master cylinder reservoir cap and

diaphragm for cuts, cracks, nicks and deformation. Master cylinder body bore for scoring or corrosion. If noted, replace body. Replace damaged
parts. Clean all parts in clean denatured alcohol. Dry with unlubricated compressed air. Abrasives should not be used in master cylinder body bore.

ASSEMBLE

1. Lubricate rubber parts with clean brake fluid to ease re-assembly.
2. Master cylinder secondary piston seals and secondary piston spring retainer to secondary piston.
3. Lubricated secondary piston and master cylinder secondary piston spring into master cylinder body bore.
4. Lubricated primary piston into master cylinder body bore. 
5. Master cylinder primary piston retainer ring while depressing primary piston.
6. Reservoir diaphragm into master cylinder cap.
7. Master cylinder cap onto reservoir.
8. Bench bleed master cylinder.
