Cruise Control Switch: Description and Operation
Fig. 2 Exploded View Of Cruise Control Switch Assembly
DESCRIPTION
The release switch assembly must be adjusted at the same time the stop lamp and torque converter clutch (TCC) switch is adjusted. The clutch switch
assembly or clutch anticipate switch assembly cannot be adjusted until clutch pedal assembly is installed. Proper stop lamp switch adjustment is
essential. Improper adjustment will cause brake drag and excessive brake lining wear. Refer to Fig. 2 when performing this procedure.
OPERATION
1. Depress brake pedal or clutch pedal and insert release switch assembly, stop lamp and TCC switch assembly and clutch switch or clutch anticipate
switch assembly into pedal assembly with bracket until retainer on release switch, stop lamp and TCC switch assembly and clutch switch or clutch
anticipate switch assembly is fully seated.
2. Ensure proper amount of force is applied to brake pedal assembly during adjustment. Excessive force could damage vacuum booster, too
little force could result in dragging brakes.
3. Slowly pull brake or clutch pedal rearward with 50 pounds of force until click sounds can no longer be heard. Release switch assembly, stop lamp
and TCC switch assembly and clutch switch or clutch anticipate switch will have moved retainers to their original positions.
4. Release switch and stop lamp and TCC switch contacts should be open at 1 inch or less of pedal travel and occur at same time or before beginning
of braking. The brake pedal can travel up to 1 inch before cruise control disengages.
