Drive Belt: Service and Repair

NOTE:  Routine inspection of the drive belt may reveal cracks in the belt ribs. These cracks will not impair belt performance and therefore should not be
considered a problem requiring belt replacement. However, the belt should be replaced if belt slipping occurs or if sections of the belt ribs are missing.

CAUTION:  The indicator on the movable portion of the tensioner must be within the tolerance marks on the stationary portion of the tensioner. Any
reading outside of these marks indicates either a defective belt or tensioner.

REMOVAL 

1. Inspect the belt length on the drive belt tensioner for the proper installed length. If the tensioner pulley does not indicate the proper installed

length, install a new drive belt.

2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. 
3. Rotate the drive belt tensioner downward off the serpentine drive belt using a offset wrench con the tensioner pulley bolt.
4. Remove the drive belt from the accessory pulleys.

INSTALLATION 

1. Install the serpentine drive belt to the accessory pulleys.
2. Install the drive belt over the tensioner pulley by pulling down on the drive belt tensioner. Be sure that the drive belt is aligned into the proper

grooves of the accessory drive pulleys.

3. Lower the vehicle.
