Firebird V8-5.7L VIN G (2001)
10. Loosen the exhaust pipe clamp, (5.7 L shown, 3.8 L similar).
11. Lower the right side of the rear axle enough to remove the muffler.
12. Remove the muffler by rotating and sliding the muffler out from behind the vehicle.
13. Transfer the exhaust hanger(s) to the new muffler.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Exhaust System Clearance Notice in Service Precautions.
1. Install the exhaust muffler to the vehicle, (5.7 L shown, 3.8 L similar).
2. Raise the rear axle.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Tighten the exhaust pipe clamp.
Tighten the exhaust pipe clamp bolt to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the left exhaust muffler hanger to the underbody.
Tighten the exhaust muffler hanger bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
