Information Bus: Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
A Symptoms - Data Link Communications
IMPORTANT: Review the system description and operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to Data Link Connector
Description and Operation.
Visual/Physical Inspection

Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the Data Link Connector system. Refer to Checking Aftermarket Accessories in
Diagrams.

Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.
Intermittent
Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Electrical Intermittents in Diagrams.

Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the following list in order to diagnose the symptom:

Scan Tool Does Not Power Up

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
Modules connected to the class 2 serial data circuit monitor for send data communications during normal vehicle operation. Operating information and
commands are exchanged among the modules. Connecting a scan tool to the DLC allows communication with the modules for diagnostic purposes.
Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may be set due to this symptom and during this diagnostic procedure. Complete the diagnostic procedure in order to
ensure that all of the DTCs are diagnosed and cleared from memory.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
Disconnecting modules and turning the ignition switch to RUN may cause DTCs to set in these modules. Check for DTCs in each module upon
completion of the required repair.
